In the gallery’s longstanding history with frame mouldings, Bhuvanesh Gowda has spent time in the framing shop, interacted with the kinds of wood utilised. Here these frame mouldings are brought away from their form or function. Elevated on pedestals, they are magnified laterally and longitudinally as Bhuvanesh journeys back to his childhood affiliation with wood carving. Reminding him of toy vehicles, animals and birds made by carpenters in his childhood, these sculptures annotate the beginnings of his fascination with the material of wood. It also brings us closer to the origin story of ‘Chem-mould’, formed of Chemical Moulding Manufacturing Company started by Kekoo in 1941.
