The first book of the Bible, Genesis, accounts the wrath of God against the evil mankind, but Noah, his family, and pairs of animals and birds remained safe in the ark that God commanded Noah to build. Lavanya’s work, here, references this biblical narrative and Miskin’s Moghul miniature, bringing to the forefront the other layers of the ecological pyramid that may have been endangered over time. From the highest altitude to the pit of the ocean, an optic portrayal of varied species clog the ark, taking their complaints to the raven, in the pursuit of solace and security against the odds.
Sediment The chemical reaction of natural indigo is often reminiscent of Earth processes such as sedimentation where naturally occurring material is broken down by processes of weathering and erosion. The video documents the reduction processes of Indigo with various natural material like dates, turnips, sweet potato, madder and henna, evocative of sediment motion that creates self-organised structures such as ripples, dunes, or antidunes on the river or stream bed.
