  • We’re excited to welcome our 2025 Summer Residents—Kalpana Vishwas, Rachita, and Pushpa Kumari—three women artists whose practices span diverse mediums and perspectives. From Kalpana’s explorations of urban flora through painting and cartographic mapping, to Pushpa’s emotionally charged works interrogating patriarchal structures, and Rachita’s surreal, embroidered narratives drawn from everyday life, each artist brings a unique voice to this year’s residency.
  • Kalpana Vishwas, b. 1995

    Kalpana Vishwas

    b. 1995

    Kalpana Vishwas, an artist whose practice is rooted in careful observation and deep engagement with the overlooked details of the world around us. Originally from Uttar Pradesh, Kalpana currently lives and works in Santiniketan.

    Vishwas holds an MFA and BFA in Painting from Kala Bhavana, Visva-Bharati University. Her work often focuses on the subtle presence of nature in urban spaces, exploring themes of resilience, coexistence, and transformation through painting and cartographic mapping.

    She has previously participated in residencies at Space Studio, Baroda, and Hampi Art Labs, Karnataka. During her time in Mumbai, she will be exploring the city’s forgotten flora—wild plants growing in cracks, corners, and quiet in-between spaces—seeking out the delicate yet powerful ways nature continues to adapt and persist in the urban landscape.

    b. 2000

    Pushpa Kumari, an emerging artist from Bokaro, Jharkhand, whose practice draws deeply from personal history, emotional depth, and social critique. Now based in Pune, Pushpa continues to explore the complexities of identity and vulnerability through her art.

    Kumari (b.2000) earned her BFA in Painting from Kala Bhavana, Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan and her MVA in Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts, MSU, Baroda. Her art practice is grounded in her fascination with the intricacies of human emotions and its ties with patriarchal society informed by her own life experience including personal challenges that have subtly shaped her worldview.

    She has exhibited her work as part of a group show at Anant Art Gallery, Noida titled 'Pushpabaug', and was a recipient of the Abir First Take Award. Pushpa’s art reflects her astute awareness of the world’s intricacies. society advocating vulnerability with inclination towards female psyche.

  • Rachita Dutta, b. 1993

    Rachita Dutta

    b. 1993

    Rachita Dutta, an artist who translates her inner world through the delicate and intricate mediums of drawing and embroidery. Currently based in Jammu, her work blends the surreal with the real, infused with satire, humour, and emotional depth.

     

    Rachita (b.1993) completed her BVA from Jammu University and her MFA from Kala Bhavana, Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan. Her artistic process mirrors the layered nature of emotion where each stitch and chosen colour becomes a reflection of thought, memory, and feeling. With a childlike lens, she explores everyday experiences, reimagining them into fantastical narratives.
