As a continued part of Jitish Kallat’s artistic practice where he addresses the core themes of sustenance, survival and mortality in the contemporary urban environment, these large format paintings incorporate ordinary folks sitting on station benches, photographed by the artist. While they sit, they wait for trains, or simply wait. Particular to this body of works are streaks and patterns - patterns that adorn their clothing, or patterns that form abstract collages across the surface of the painting.
