These artworks showcase simple studies of female figure, held in an abstract or real space.
Atul was inspired by the Santhal women images from Nandalal Bose's work. In 2001, he did a series of tormented female figures in a large scale watercolour called 'Tearscape'. After that, in 2005, he was inspired by Nandalal Bose's 'Sabari' works, a well known mythological figure from the epic Ramayana and created a body of work 'Sabari in her Youth - after Nandalal Bose'.
Within these studies of tribal women with a skeletal body holding their house in a spirited gesture, Atul admires the spirit and power with which women handle the household.
