New works
6 - 29 October 2005
Sheetal Gattani is a pure abstractionist. Her process is a
search for resonance in light, colour, lines and textures. Appearing
much like wind weathered walls or stone surfaces her paintings
have no distinct beginnings or ends.
She starts with black, working in several layers of watercolor,
a colour each day. For Sheetal, that the viewer is able to see
the numerous applications of pigment is more important than
achieving a specific form or figure.
Sheetal's struggle lies in the process of reconditioning and
freeing herself of past preoccupation. Once that happens, the
painting materializes.
Showing in Bombay after a span of 4 years (having exhibited
with Gallery Chemould previously as well) one sees the shift
in her work in terms pallet and format - her colours have brightened
and her scale has increased.
