Sukhdev Rathod is a young artist from Baroda. A skilled and meticulous craftsman and sculptor, he creates 3 dimensional wall-works that mimic in miniature scale the painted backdrops and spaces one sees on a proscenium stage. The works feature powder-puff painted cutouts of clouds, jig-sawed guns, saws and hammers. Rathod's ongoing interest in Surrealistic Art has helped him master the illusionistic mode to combine and create paintings within and out of three-dimensional spaces - wooden boxes using oils and acrylics. The tension between virtual space and real space teases more meaning out of simple objects.
